Hi,
I am staying in Bangkok for 1 night in mid March and then again in April for 1 night. Can anyone recommend a hotel that would be a great base for sightseeing. I have realised form reading other posts that being by the Sky train is pretty important for getting around the city so i guess near a station will be very usefull.
I have been recommended the Maxim%26#39;s inn on Sukhumvit but have seen that it is near Nana which is a rough area isn%26#39;t it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hotel for 1250Baht or less
I think that if you just take care, you will have no problems. Keep away from dark or dodgy looking places. I am staying there in March and expect to have no trouble. I don%26#39;t intend to go out to bars etc or be out late at night - I am travelling solo.
The price and description of the hotel suits me, as well as being close to the skytrain.

there%26#39;s nothing wrong with nana. Be well..and choose not to disturb or have a problem with anyone else and you will be just fine!
Hello
I agree with the two comments above I will be staying at a hotel in April taht is smack bang in the middle of Nana and Asoke. Having been there before on my own, i am having no second thoughts about returning with my wife and two daughters aged 12 and 8.
My advice is- Use some commonsense, dont get too wild and i am sure you will have no troubles!!!.
Cheers!!!!!!!!!
Try out Malaysia Hotel in Soi Ngam Duphli. Rate around 990baht, if im not mistaken.5 minutes walk to Lumphini MRT (subway) station. that will link u anywhere to Silom or Siam Sq. Very safe place. I have stayed there for a number of times.
Hi
I was in Bangkok last November and stayed at the Bangkok City Inn which would possibly meet your requirements. This hotel is clean and safe, located right in the shopping district opposite the Central World Plaza and near to the BTS Skytrain station.
The Bangkok City Inn is a three-star tourist class hotel but is off the usual list maybe because of the limited number of rooms. I paid around your budget for a single room including a buffet breakfast. This is far better than the guest houses in Khaosan or Soi Kasem near Mah Boon Kong.
I didn%26#39;t see any areas in Thailand that I would consider rough. I stayed at Suk11 near Soi 11 on Sukumvhit near Soi Nana and it was great.
Nana is one of the best places for street food, my favorite! Very happening place. Nana is not to be missed in my opinion, I%26#39;ll try to stay there next time.
The prices vary depending on how the tourist season is going. For example Ever Rich Inn is very nice 3 star. I paid 1000 baht for Queen 1 BR. It%26#39;s more expensive normally but tourism was down last month so everybody lowers the prices.
There are many places in Bangkok near Nana like Jas3 near Soi 1/3 which are decent places but are very small and you will not be able to book online or even telephone. You just have to be there to see it. I paid 1000 baht at Jas3, big room, very clean.
My video review of the Ever Rich Inn here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PXgEZXVRn8

While safe enough, the Malaysia hotel is well known for the male %26amp; female sex workers who frequent the place, both as guests of tourists, and as hanging around the coffee shop.
Try the link below you can get hotel of accor for 1300 Baht.

Hi
Have you thought about staying in KhoaSan road area. Although there are a lot of really budget backpacker places, there are also some nicer ones as well. Good night market, restaurant and bar scene. Also close to river, Grand Palace and a short taxi ride to underground railway to connect with BTS into central bangkok or out to Chatuchak weekend markets. We are an %26#39;older%26#39; couple and always stay in this area and have never felt unsafe even wandering around at night. It is also an older part of Bangkok so behind the touristy parts are real families living and getting on with daily like. you can check out khoasanroad.com.au if it helps.
sorry the website should read khaosanroad.com - no au on end!
