Modern Finishes, Clean Lines, Perfect Service and The Best Pool at Kai Bae.
The Resort is perfectly located in the middle of the busy Kai Bae Beach Strip, with 5 minute walking access to anything you wish to do. Once inside the Resort the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed with no indication that you are anywhere but in a high quality resort facility.
We stayed in the Ocean Villa, right on the beachfront with spectacular views of the surrounding islands and the daily sunset. This is the best room in the resort, most likely the best room on Kai Bae Beach and one of the best beachfront rooms on Koh Chang. If you are staying in the Villas at The Chill make sure you request this room. The room itself was immaculately presented with all the amenities you would expect; room safe, 3 showers, 2 bathrooms, split system air con, state of the art TV/Movie/Music/Internet facility, plunge pool, direct access to the amazing resort infinity pool, 24 hr room service etc etc.
The other rooms seem to also be well appointed, however due to the resort layout, without the spectacular views. However, the restaurant/bar/poolside areas are well placed to relax and enjoy the views.
The resort staff are all very professional with the main Reception, Bar and Restaurant staff speaking excellent English. The Day Spa is of the best possible standard, and although being more expensive than the “street vendors” the quality experience was worth every BHT.
The daily breakfast was good and included Thai versions of a Western Breakfast. The eggs were excellent, but it would seem that they think westerners all eat pork for bfast … pork sausage, ham, bacon, and even fried rice with pork! The coffee was OK, the butter and jams were terrible. Also lots of fresh fruit, cereal, juice, pastries etc.
We didn’t try the lunch or dinner menu as the prices were expensive (double+) what was available on the street, without the variety. In fact, during our stay we didn’t see any of the guests using the restaurant for other than breakfast.
The bad. Not much really. There were some “fit and finish” issues that you would expect from a just finished resort. The gardens/landscaping are yet to be fully established and the bamboo perimeter fences need to grow before the vacant land on either side of the resort are hidden from view. The room we stayed in had plenty of cupboard space, but no draws for clothing. There weren’t enough hooks to hang towels and swimmers to dry. The plunge pool and courtyard area of the Villas will definitely benefit from the garden growth to create a screen for more privacy. All these issues are minor and in no way detracted from a wonderful experience.
Highly recommended for a memorable vacation. We will definitely return.
The Chill Koh Chang - My Review
So you had a terrific honeymoon. Great!
Could you also describe the beach as the view was great. And how much did you spend for the Ocean Villa?
The Chill Koh Chang - My Review
Hi Lotus. Good to meet you guys when you were here.
Today, I also heard from someone else who was there 2 weeks ago and who rated The Chill as his favourite resort on the island. He had previously stayed at Amari, Dewa %26amp; Dusit before.
But similar to you he summed the place up as being %26#39;designed by a straight guy%26#39; meaning there isn%26#39;t much in the way of plants or soft furnishings and it%26#39;s more hi-tech bachelor pad than romantic boudoir.
Kai Bae - great sunset views, and views of posing Eastern Europeans in g-strings, from the infinity pool but decidedly average beach.
Glad you enjoyed your stay - but please don%26#39;t forget the massive strain these places ae putting n the local environment.
Electricity, sewage and rubbish generated all has to be dealt with at a terrible cost to the local land and sea.
I agree with khunwilko. We all enjoy travelling to beautiful places but we should always keep in mind the cost to the environment or it%26#39;s not going to be so beautiful in a few years. I went to Margarita Island near Venezuela about 18 years ago and while the beach was just outside the hotel gate nobody sat on the beach as it was strewn with rubbish. Most visitors stayed by the hotel poolside. It may be better now but it was very sad to see. Being an aussie I can%26#39;t imagine seeing our beaches like that. Besides considering what %26#39;s left on the beach as khunwilko said it%26#39;s also what%26#39;s being pumped out to sea.
This well written %26amp; comprehensive review deserved to be posted in the review area, instead of the very short 3 sentences that you did write there.
This thread will disappear into obscurity in no time, whereas your review will always be there.
Thanks Fourb2,
Unfortunately, there is a word limit to the reviews in the Hotel/Resort sections.
Hopefully this post/review will be found by interested people via the search function.
G%26#39;day Lotus,
The review section can easily accommodate the length of review you%26#39;ve posted here. The only practical limit is applied to the ';minimum'; characters @ 50. You%26#39;ll notice even lengthier reviews from time to time as you use the reviews for your own research.
Short of requesting T/A delete your review so you can re-post it, it%26#39;s moot.
I too hope this thread helps anyone willing to search for it, I hate to see such thoughtful work go to waste.
