There are just so many places, you have named the 2 most popular islands for tourists, it dependds what sort of vacation you are looking for, whether you want shopping, restaurants and nightlife, whether a very busy island or looking for something quieter and more laid back. There are so many beaches, islands, inland locations.
There are lots of islands and beaches and other places all with their own benefits.
In May the weather should be fine on koh Samui and the surrounding area but starts to get wet Phuket / krabi / Phi Phi areas.
