Nai Yang beach bars and restaurants

Anybody been to Nai Yang recently? If so please let me know if the following establishments (aka beach shacks) are still in operation:

Mr Kobi Bar

Kwantas

Wat Bar

Beach Club

Aloha Bar

Pizza Lee%26#39;s

They%26#39;re such tiny places I fear for their survival if tourism is down even slightly.

(I%26#39;ll ask again in a few weeks to check up)

Excellent, thanks. I highly recommend Mr Kobi Bar - best mix of good food, nice drinks and relaxed atmosphere on the strip.

Mr Kobi tends to get a bit tired by 10pm though so it%26#39;s often better to move along to Wat Bar which is excellent just for drinking. Wat himself speaks perfect English so is a good source of information.

Hi Revolver and Angiestav , just came across you posts and Im very interested in them

Revolver - you sound like someone who has been in NaiYang a few times -what are the things to do in that part of phuket ? we were in Patong last year but decided to go a little easier this year :-) Is there any sites that you would recommend be good to see , elephant trecks, massages ,bars ,food etc

I note with great intrest your questions regarding the bars you seem to know well

angiestav - i look foward to finding out how the latset forum poster in that area gets on

Do either of you OR anyone else for that matter happen to know a rough cost of a taxi from the airport to the indigo pearl - i notice people saying the indigo pearl is only about 2 miles from the airport but a rough idea or exact :-) cost would be great

Many Thanks

Glenn

Hi Glenn

Nai Yang couldn%26#39;t be more different from Patong. Very quiet, just a few bars and restaurants along the beach. Perfect.

All the places I mention in the first post are worth visiting for food and drink. We frequented them every day during last year%26#39;s holiday and intend to again this time. (We did eat at Indigo Pearl one night and weren%26#39;t impressed to be honest!)

There%26#39;s also a couple of (genuine) massage huts along the beach, even a tailor but he isn%26#39;t that pushy.

Oh yeah, elephants - we did the Bang Pae elephant trek thing. It involved a walk up to a waterfall (and a fall DOWN the waterfall for my mate), a short trip on an elephant and an utterly bizarre and useless ';buffalo cart'; which involved nothing more than going round in a small circle very slowly in a yak-pulled wagon.

We recently stayed at the Airport Resort, Nai Yang and went for a walk along Nai Yang beach, left from the new Dewa Hotel. The only hotel we came across was the Adamas right at the end - next to a large derelict hotel. Is that the Crown? Adamas was very impressive and I wouldn%26#39;t mind a couple of nights there prior to flying out.

If we had turned right along the beach front by the Dewa would we have got to the Indigo Pearl?

I%26#39;m sorry to say we weren%26#39;t very impressed with the part of Nai Yang beach that we saw, but the long walk by the back road on the return was very pleasant.

Yes it%26#39;s the Crown that%26#39;s derelict%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

The Nai Yang area has always appeared pretty run down to me and never appealed. There%26#39;s still the halfbuilt resort at the south end that%26#39;s been like that for nearly 2 years now...another case of someone running out of money probably%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

Ooooppppssss - dont like the sound of the last two posts - can anyone else confirm or deny what they say ? i know you cant please all the people all the time BUT im in need to help - looking for an honest cross section of opinions so that I can decide if Nai Yang is the place for me

Thanks

G

One tsunami-destroyed hotel does not make a run down area. Along Nai Yang are beach shacks selling food and drink, some proper (brick) buildings the other side of the road with more restaurants and shops, a nice beach, and a national park at the top end.

So consider to yourself - do you like beach shacks, nice scenery, cheap food, nice non-pushy people? Or will the sight of one ruined building spoil it for you?

The one ruined building wasn%26#39;t the problem - you only notice that when you%26#39;re nearly on top of it. In my opinion not a pleasant area at all. The beach and forefront was strewn with rubbish. Of course, it%26#39;s horses for courses and you have to make up your own mind. Being part of the national park we thought it would be pretty and well maintained - but it turned out to be a disappointment.
