Family Holiday

Hi there

We would like to go to Thailand for our family holiday this year. We have only ever taken our children to Europe before, so really are not sure where to start. Can anyone recommend a good hotel for families? We like all inclusive, 4-5 star.

Thanks

First is what time of year you you thinking of as weather varies place to place.

You need to decide destination options fist.

Secondly, all-inclusive is not a big thing in Thailand at all, a %26#39;few%26#39; places are starting it but in Thailand eating out and drinks and in general %26#39;going out%26#39; in the evnings and doing tours and sightseeing or the beach in the days does not make all-inclusive that popular. Eating out is so cheap.

Had you thought about type of place you want to stay whether busy tourist island or quieter islands, whether large choice of restaurantsshopping is important or not. Whether you wasnt to do things such as snorkeling, adventure tours, treks etc.

There is so mcuh diversity, the more you can tell us the easier it is to make suggestions.

I would also get hold of a guide book though as a starter, information can be out of date and prices different but you get the basics and can browse though to get an idea of the options, also they have maps and that helps when people mention place name.

That gives you a starting point to get to see what there is on offer. Then we can all help with details and ideas.

Hi Monica

Thanks so much for helping me!

Ok, so I really don%26#39;t know very much about Thailand at all. My daughter%26#39;s best-friend%26#39;s Mother is from Thailand and she goes home every couple of years so I will have a chat with her.

I will also get a guide book and do some research on the Internet.

We don%26#39;t have to go all inclusive and if eating out is reasonable then, I would prefer that anyway as we can try different places. The reason I mentioned all in, is for us as a family going away in Europe, during School Holidays it is now so expensive. So last year to save money we went all inclusive to Turkey and it worked out quite well.

Weather is an issue as we have sooo much rain in England!! We would be travelling in August as we are tied to school holidays, so really where ever it rains the least. From reading the forums there seems to be mixed opinions and it varies from place to place.

OK the sort of holiday we look for. I normally would book 4 star hotel, 5 if we can afford it (not these days!) I go for this rating as we like nice spacious rooms, normally go for somewhere where we can have either bungalow style or interconnecting room. My children are 12 and 9. We really enjoy eating out and great food. Its nice to get dressed up for dinner, somewhere quite classy but not over the top posh if that makes sense? Entertainment for the kids, but doesn%26#39;t have to be mad crazy kid club type thing. Mine are happy with a great pool, may be some slides and a bit of entertainment in the evening.

My husband and I like to sight see but haven%26#39;t really gone for that type of holiday for a few years as the children become a bit bored. However they are getting older and it would be nice to have a few places to visit, that may be the kids would like too. Last year we were really stuck in our hotel as there was nowhere we could walk to. For the first week that was lovely just chilling out around the pool, but by the second week it would of been nice to visit a couple of places.

Gosh I hope the above helps to give you some idea. In a nutshell, good food, nice accommodation, some entertainment for the kids (not too crazy), and the option of going out to site see.

Monica it would be great if you can help, I think for me the weather is a bit scary.

Thanks Faye
