Tong tour question about guide

Hi

booked a day tour with tong tours and we are doing the BHL5 tour roughly but hopefully with Jim Thompsons house and not Wat Trimitr.

Do we buy the guide lunch? I presume at some stage we will be stopping somewhere for lunch, do they guide you towards the best place to eat depending on where you are and what you like?

Having just returned and using the services of Tong and her guides you don%26#39;t buy them lunch. They take you to a restaurant and discreetly disappear and magically reappear at the end of your meal.

Oh yeah.....i forgot that I was going to ask someone about tipping the guide?

It%26#39;s all up to you. Tipping isn%26#39;t necessary in Thailand.

Thanks for that, I did wonder and didn%26#39;t want to appear impolite but at same time really don%26#39;t want to insult them!

I have submitted an enquiry using the online form and sent a follow up e-mail but have not received any reply.

So far I am not impressed despite all the good reviews.

edwinlizard - thanks. I shall wait a few more days. It does not set a good impression for a service company to not acknowledge e-mail promptly.

Hi we had Tom one of Tongs guides and we didn%26#39;t buy him lunch, we offered but he was insistant that we didn%26#39;t. When we went he said we could have lunch at a typical thai restaurant or at the restaurant at Jim thompsons house. We did Jim thompsons restaurant and it was really good well worth it and it has some good reviews on here. Tipping is upto the individual but we did two full day tours with Tom and wanted to give him a bit extra as he was great.

As she has just lost he blackberry Phone which she using.

As she is setting up her buisness and will use a computer to communicate with people.

Don%26#39;t worry about Tong getting back to you.. she will eventually.. she is unfortunately a one woman show when it comes to managing the admin side of her business and trying to tour every day with clients... she isnt a big corporation therefore you wont get that same level of service that you would from a company that has lots of staff doing different roles.. she is it!!

She is worth the wait.... so try not to stress about it... unless of course the tour date you want is in the next couple of weeks (and in that case the chances of booking her would be very slim)... she will return your messages!

I have used Tong on both trips to Thailand.. and on my upcoming trip will be using a couple of her other guides instead ... will post reviews when I am back!
