Kamala or Karon.

Hi everyone. 4 of us (2 couples) in our 50%26#39;s are travelling to Phuket in October for our 1st visit. Travel agent has recommended the Aquamarine resort in Kamala. It looks great but seems that it could be a little out of the way ';15 min walk'; from beach (%26amp; it;s downhill) Has anyone stayed here? What%26#39;s it like %26amp; how far from restaurants etc ? Is it too quite (we may be 50%26#39;s but not yet ready for retirement village)

The other area agen suggested was Karon. What is the better area ? Have heard that Patong would be too busy noisy etc.Hotel in Karon was recommended as Cape Sienna.

Once again, any info. gratefully received.

Kamala or Karon.

Aquamarine in Kamala has luxury accommodation but my own opinion more suited for your couples who are happy to be in very quiet place, it is what i term hillside location, that means a good 15 mintes walk, 5 minutes by car.

So i really don%26#39;t know why the travel agent would suggest unless you wanted a romantic hideaway !

There is no beach there, you have to go into kamala, which means you have to carry all your beach stuff with you.

Are there 2 Cape Sienna%26#39;s ? The only one I know of is in Kamala, another headland hillside, great views, but you have the same location thing.

Now if you wanted kamala you might as well be on the beach, although not top luxury or anything right on the beachfront area is Kamala Beach Hotel.

Kamala is quiet and it means a taxi to/from Patong, there are some good restaurants around Kamala but I think Kata or Karon would suit you better.

The Karon beach resort at far south is on the beach, far north end again hillside with views but relatively negotiable walkway down to be is Ccentara villas. Other wise across the beach road, there are luxury and also mid range.

Kata is very nice, the Kata beach resort is right on the beach near Club Med, there are restaurants, some shopping and easy going bars in the area. If not right on the beach there are somne good 4 star bargains like Centara Kara Resort

You are saying October, that is still within the low season and prices are cheap because of that, rates go up from November when the weathe rimproves for the high season, so there are lots of bargains. deluxe about AU$ 104, Suite AU$ 194 as a price guide, they do a stay 10 nights but pay for 5 nights or stay 12 nights just pay 6 nights deal in october, little catch, on those free nights you have to pay compulsory breakfast about AU$24 each, know that sounds high, it is, so think of it that you pay say $104 for the first 6 nights and then AU$48 for the next 6 nights and that is some %26#39;real bargain%26#39; for a 4 star, again, not on the beach but walkable easy.

Kata beach resort absolute beachfront about AU$150-190 for 2 a night.

if you like boutique style with good cuisine try Mom tri%26#39;s Boathouse or villa royale, you will get plenty of ideas about those here, good if you want more boutique style as opposed to resort style.

Le Meridien is in it%26#39;s own cove a few km south of Patong, great location but you can%26#39;t rally walk anywhere from there. kata does have the benefit of wandering outside your hotel/resort to restaurants etc.

Patong in october won%26#39;t be that busy, you have some nice places that are close to shopping, restaurants etc without being right in the center,Amari at the very far south end ( transport needed unless a very long walk ), Gracelands is just north of the busy area, walking idtance. Club Andaman very good for age group, well established resort hotel, not right in the busy area but walking distance. AU$ 94-114, 114 gives you balcony deluxe room ( best room grade ), good 4 star range. In october with weather if you do like to go out most evenings then patong should not be off your lists, perhaps better than being in a quieter area if you did like to go out a lot, also is by far the best for shopping !

Kamala or Karon.

The wife and I are in our LATE 50%26#39;s and have been to Phuket 4 times and stayed in Kamala, Patong, Karon and Kata. We did not stay at the Aquamarine, but we did stay in that area and it was the least favorite because of the locaton. Kata is very quiet and for the most part the beach is blocked off by Club Med. Patong is busy and has many restaurants and shopping oportunities. We are in the midle of planning our next trip and we will most likely stay at the Centra Karon Resort. we have not stayed there before but have read many good reviews and we like the location. It is close to many good restaurants, massage shops, shopping and about 5-7 minutes walk to the beach wen we want to go. To be honest if we are going to lay out we prefer to do it around a nice pool with drink service. Have a look and it may be what you are looking for.

Thank you for your advice %26amp; help.We have now decided that Patong might be the area that is best suited. I will start looking at the resorts/hotels you have suggested. There are so many great looking places to choose from. Decisions, decisions.

Thanks again,

Stroudie.
