Ive been looking through past topics re Rawai beach and the seafood bbq%26#39;s where you sit on mats on the beach.

Are these places still there does anyone know? The posts are quite dated and i cant find any recent ones.

The idea is to get a taxi from where we are staying in Kata to Rawai one evening for a few drinks and some nice seafood!

Hi saramad - we went about 18 months ago and did exactly that.

The restaurants are on the other side of the road to the beach - but you just order your prawns and stciky rice and go sit on the beach!

Theybring the beers and food across to you!!

BTW - i feel it should be compulsory if you do eat on Rawai that you have to order BBQ prawn and stick rice, perhaps we could implement some sort of jail term .... :))

Do it - Rawai rocks - especially around dusk - watching the light fade with the longtail boats all moored.

AS time goes on, they keep building more of the concrete wall blocking the view of the water and taking away the beach.

Now, you have to go about half-way down the beach before you get to the end of the wall. From there, westward there are still a few places left where you can sit on the mats on the ground or sand rather than at a concrete table with your view of the beachfront blocked. (the new way)

Don%26#39;t know why they think this is better but obviously they are putting some money into it to change it in this way.

The food is still good though.

The wall certainly has spoilt the character of Rawai.

Another 5 minutes away at Nai Harn beach there are several Thai restaurants just behind the beach chairs which are good value.

In front of the car park heading towards the beach there are several stall selling fresh fruit,fried chicken,drinks %26amp; to the right of these stalls there are several shops.

Just another suggestion if you are not happy with Rawai for dinner. CJ

mnay thnaks for your replies - hmm, dont know now, it sounds like it is nothing like the pictures i have seen which are 2 years old now anyway! it looked so nice and seemed like a lovely thing to do one evening, maybe not anymore!

I first went to Rawai many,many years back and stayed at a resort which is now the Evason Resort and Six Senses Spa Hotel. We loved it then and I have often thought of going back, after reading the posts re your question I am having second thoughts.
