Will this offend?

i hope you do not mind me asking this but My Son aged 19 wears varying oriental tea shirts. They tend to have japanese pictures or logos on. If he wears these in Bangkok would they offend as he would not want to offend anyone...

Will this offend?

HI

I doubt very much if he would offend anyone unless the tee shirts have vugler or bad language written in Japenese that he is unaware of.

You will see many young thai%26#39;s wearing american

tee shirts with bad language or $exest saying on

them I don%26#39;t think they understand what the shirts are saying they don%26#39;t understand the F word you see it on many t-shirts

Have your son go to www.worktshirt.com they have a huge line of graffic t%26#39;s they have store at Chatuchak

market and a store downtown they have some great and interesting shirts.

Will this offend?

Unless the message offends the Monarchy.. No problems..

As Slowrunner says, the only thing that will be a problem would be disparaging comments about the Royal Family. This could actually land the boy in jail!

Sawadeeka is also correct in her observation about Thais not knowing what they are wearing. I have seen preteens, on family outings, wearing tee shirts with all sorts of obscenities printed on them.

I would suggest to your son that he leave all his shirts home and buy new ones in Bangkok. He%26#39;ll find some rather nice designs along with many shirts printed with Thai script. Everyone wears Chinese and Japanese print tee shirts. He will be a stand out wearing Thai tees.

Thank you for asking this - I was wondering something similar - my 13 yearold is a ';Deathnote'; fan! :)

Agree with previous comments some Thais will wear T-Shirts with Hitler and Bin Laden faces on amongst others.

Thanks. The tea shirts are not vulgar or insulting. All they have is Tokyo on etc

The Swastika is a sacred Hindu symbol and you can even find it in some temples in Thailand.

The word %26#39;Hello%26#39; in Thai %26#39;Sawatdee%26#39; originates from them the Sanskrit word %26#39;Swastika%26#39; meaning %26#39;well-being%26#39;.

So, if the Thais wear a swastika t-shirt that%26#39;s their business. It%26#39;s part of their historical culture. Read up before criticizing.

I don%26#39;t believe anyone mentioned ';swastika';.

Is someone losing it?

In India you can buy silk saris with little swastikas as a pattern. Hindu symbol.

Only the western world has a problem with it.

I mentioned Hitler maybe he got confused with the point I was agreeing with.
