where to stay in bangkok

hi tan76,

Here you will find maps of major areas including Sukhumvit rd. The maps show hotels location so you can see what hotels are near a BTS or a MRT station: thaiwaysmagazine.com/bangkok_map/bangkok_map鈥?/a>

You can search the forum for previous threads about ';hotel';

where to stay in bangkok

Hi,

We usually try to avoid the huge, impersonal, skyscraper hotels in Bangkok (although we have stayed in a number of them priced about 拢50-拢70 per double room - and the accomodation offered was excellent). Instead, we usually choose the smaller boutique hotels (In the Sukhmvit area I would thoroughly recommend the Adelphi Suites on Soi 8 - which are really serviced apartments with all the comforts of a hotel and are about 1 min walk from Nana BTS station. We stayed there last month and would certainly return. (Request a room on a higher floor on the side that looks out over the BTS and the Westin Hotel - at night, the view from the enormous window is the best we%26#39;ve ever had in Bangkok). In the Silom area, the Siam Heritage is well worth a stay and, in Chinatown try the Shanghai Mansion. All have their own websites and are also reviewed on Trip Advisor. Every area of central Bangkok has it own atmosphere, night markets and huge range of restaurants and street food stalls - so it%26#39;s difficult to recommend any area in particular. Distances might not look large on a map of the city centre, but they%26#39;re much greater than you would think. For a first time visitor, the BTS system and the river boats are a very efficient means of getting around to visit the main attractions and no hotel will be convenient for all of them. Taxis are very reasonable (if the traffic is moving!) but the meters have a habit of ';breaking down'; at night, so haggle a price for any journey before setting off. Travel by tuk tuk can be hair raising, but great fun. Again, haggle a price for your journey - it%26#39;s expected. If you are arriving into the International Airport, head left once in the arrivals hall and avoid the ';offers'; of transport into Bangkok. Go almost to the left hand end of the building to the taxi rank where your destination will be written down on a paper receipt and given to a taxi driver. Ask to go by the expressway and have some small denomination notes (100 or 50 baht)to hand as you will need to give the driver payment for each of the 2-3 toll booths you pass through. Expect a fare, excluding tolls, of about 400-500 baht. Depending on traffic, journey should be 30-45 min. Enjoy your trip!!

Sukhumvit Road is a good choice, you can use the Skytrain from the Asok or Nana Skytrain stops.

When you can get an air conditioned room with private toilet plus TV for around 600 baht on up to over 6000 baht per night - what price range suits you?

Lower Sukhumvit Road up to Soi 19 has malls, restaurants, bars, travel agencies for tours and lots of street vendors. At Asok you also have access to the Subway for rides to the national train station and other places.

This hotel is right on a Skytrain stop. Close to shopping on Phetchaburi Road. This is a mostly ';bar free'; area.

So, how much do you want to spend per night?

Good luck.

Just returned from Bangkok today, Stayed at the Citadines Hotel in Soi 8.

This hotel is in a great location just off the Sukhumvit Road. The sky train is only 200 meters away.

The hotel is very modern %26amp; clean.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bangkok.

It all depends really on how much you would like to spend.

If you choose a hotel that%26#39;s sited a short distance from a skytrain station, then you really can%26#39;t go wrong.

Navigating the city is really simple,cheap,%26amp; it%26#39;s easy to switch trains between the bts,%26amp; the mrt.

Two hotels we like are the Plaza Athenee, and the Landmark.
