Afternoon in Trang - any ideas?

Hithere,

We will be travelling from Koh Lanta to Trang mid-April in order to catch a sleeper train from Trang up North. We are 2 adults and one child (2 years).

We will probably arrive in Trang about 12.00/13.00 and our train leaves about 17.20.

Can anyone recommend anything to do for the few hours we are in town?

Is it a nice place just to walk around and have something to eat?

Any advice is most welcome!

Thanks, ukztwee

Afternoon in Trang - any ideas?

There are sites to see, parks, caves etc but it means heading out of town. You only have say 4 hours, my tip would be to head to the Thumrin Thana Hotel and go for lunch in the coffee shop or their other restaurant, that means straight off that when you walk in to the hotel you can beacm a smile at the porter, tell him you are stopping for lunch and aks him if he can hold on to your baggae for a while - that gets the bagge thing sorted.

They also have s small spa for massage, there is also a swimming pool.

Now, beaming smiles work wonders, if it was me I would not hesitate to approach reception to ask where the restaurant is ( you will see it but ask ) and then perhaps ask if any chance if you are lunching and at least one of you plans a massage any chance they have an arrangement to use the pool, tell them your train leaves at 17.20 - if you are lucky you can lunch. grab a relaxing massage, dip in the pool and if luck get a shower! Now I am not saying they %26#39;will%26#39; let you use the pool, but you stand probably better than 50/50 chance.

You can wander around the town and browse and get to see how Thai live is away from touristy places.

If you don%26#39;t feel like a swim then lunch, buy some snacks from the pastry shop, relax in the lounge or have some spa and massage - at least you get to use the toilets too !

Gives you a %26#39;base%26#39;. 4 hours is not a huge amount of time and I would spend the time getting food snacks and relaxing before the train journey as opposed to rushing off sightseeing.

There are tuk-tuks also for getting around.

Get a tuktuk and ask to be taken to Ruean Thai Dim Sum on the edge of town (10-15 minutes). THE most scrumptious freshly-made dim sum you will ever eat!

And while there, don%26#39;t forget to drink the local Hokkien coffee ';koppee'; (made by filtering through a bag). Delicious! The other Trang treat is muh yang, roast pork, to be found at many little shops in the city centre.

Otherwise, take a walk around and admire the Sino-Portugese shophouse architecture. There are whole streets of beautifully preserved arcades.

Trang is one of my favourite towns in Thailand. great atmosphere, and not many tourists once you get away from the train station area.

Brilliant!

Thanks so much for all your helpful advice!!

All duly noted and we%26#39;ll check the places out!

Thanks again, ukztwee
