Interested in the Riverside Dinner Cruise?

Has anyone done the Riverside Dinner Cruise? The Web site looks pretty inviting. We are staying at Centara so could anyone tell me is it far to walk to there and back?

One more question, We would like to see the Elephants and thought we may try the show, ride and river raft, which one would be the most enjoyable and do they offer pickup or would we need to get a driver/taxi etc.

Also how long would this type of show/tour take eg. all day or only a few hours.

All this research is confusing me so much :)

Thanks

Hi flossbrisbane,

The Mateman Elephant Camp is a good day out. You can either join an organised tour as suggested above - or hire a driver yourself for the day and do a private tour.

It takes the best part of a day - as it is about an hour drive to the Mae Rim area. There are other things to see and do around this area - depending on your interests. You should be able to return by mid afternoon - although some tours take the whole day. It%26#39;s best to get contact details for a number of guides from this forum and take the info with you. If you are in CM for more than a few days - organise this when you get there. You won%26#39;t have any problem doing this.

The Mae Ping River Tours come and pick you up from your hotel for the dinner cruise.

There is another restaurant who do dinner cruises - Tha Nam. It is a beautiful riverside restaurant - an old Thai house without a single straight angle in the place. We ate there and while eating watched their river dinner cruise leave. It looked beautiful. The food here is wonderful.

Have a look at my trip reports on Chiang Mai. There are two posted around mid October. Just click on my profile and scroll back. Chiang Mai Part One and Part Two. In the Part Two we were staying at the Centara. There might be some useful info in here for you.

Caroline.

Thank you, I%26#39;m going to read your trip report now.

We did the riverside dinner cruise and really enjoyed it. It is on our list to do again when we return this year. You do need to book in advance - it was packed on the night we did it. I also posted a JBR with details and also prices of all meals. If you search my name it should come up but I posted it at the end of December in the Chiang Mai forum

Hi Floss,

Have a read of my 2 trip reports, the first one is a summarised report and the second one is a day by day report.

Just type in the Chiang Mai search box the following.

Stewie%26#39;s 2008 Chiang Mai Trip Report.

Stewie%26#39;s Day By Day Chiang Mai Trip Report.

Then just click on the links.

Cheers,

Stewie.
