Thai New Year - transport problems?

Hello we arrive in Bangkok on 13 April and are planning on getting a bus from the airport to Trat and onto Koh Mak. As it is New Year can we expect any changes to the public transport?

Thai New Year - transport problems?

No, no changes. Why should there be changes?

The only thing is, Songkran is a time when many people go back to their village to be with their extended family. So all public transportation is likely to be quite full.

Thanks bill2p, in the UK the buses don%26#39;t usually run as regular on New Year%26#39;s Day, but I%26#39;ll just be prepared for a full bus in Thailand.

Bangkok empties at new year so buses, planes, trains are all packed out with hundreds of thousands of people leaving the city. Thai New Year is pretty much the busiest time of year on Koh Chang / Koh Mak with loads of visitors from Bangkok here for the holidays

I wouldn%26#39;t fancy your chances of getting a seat on a bus to Trat from the airport. Might be possible, or you might be in for a long wait at the airport transportation terminal for a bus with seats available.

For Koh Mak book your boat tickets in advance if you can as the speedboats will be very busy and only hold around 30 passengers.

As Bill and Ian have said, propbably more buses but it is the busiest time, a little concerned about you managing to get a bus at that time.

Are you arriving very early, had you though perhaps of flying to Trat ?
