Ko Yao islands

Is there anything worth seeing or doing on either of these islands? If so are they easy enough to get to? What would you do for getting around once there?

Cheers

Ko Yao islands

Hi Revolver, I haven%26#39;t visited the islands, but I%26#39;ve heard they%26#39;re Muslim islands and thereby don%26#39;t serve alcohol. I%26#39;m pretty sure someone was talking about it on this forum fairly recently.

Hi,

We have been looking into travelling to these Islands and I have to say that they look like paradise if you want to get away from the crowds and really relax, the main activities seem to be snorkelling, cycling, visiting the locals and learning about their farming and way of life, canoeing and trip out to other smnaller islands.

From what I understand you can purchase alcohol, but it is encouraged that you respect the locals and not drink in public, keep it in the resorts and restaurants.

Have a look at this site:

Also sear the forum, I have made queries and had some responses from others on this destination.

Cheers, K

That%26#39;s a relief. I read somewhere that there wasn%26#39;t any alcohol on the island.

Some friends want us to take our bikes there and go cycling - I%26#39;d need a nice drink after that. : )

Cycling!! Might be a bit too hot for that kind of thing for me. Looks like there%26#39;s some nice viewpoints which won%26#39;t be easily accessible by bike!

It just looks like such a wonderful place to visit though! I think you can hire motor bikes as well if cycling is not you thing!

Lets just make sure we get there before its changed by tourism any more than it already is!

Both north and south island are beautiful and the locals are very friendly %26amp; extremely helpful. They are %26#39;chill out%26#39; islands (no nightclubs etc). North island - Yao Noi, has more facilities i.e. bank, chemist, hospital, bars %26amp; restaurants scattered all over, grocery shops and local stalls selling local produce along with jewellery, t shirts, flop flops and any necessary items you may need. Mopeds or bikes can be hired locally very cheaply and are just the thing for travelling around the island. Kayaks can be hired or tailor made boat trips to Krabi/Phuket or many of the off shore islands can be easily arranged. Consumption of alcohol is not a problem - big choice in the bars or buy your own from the 7/11 (although choice is limited here). We loved it and plan to return in the not to distant future.
