Is Phuket Dangerous? Look at the news!

Hello guys,

The daily news from Phuket Gazette gives a very unsafe feeling when holidaying in Phuket. http://www.phuketgazette.net/news/index.asp

should holiday seekers be worried?

I am travelling with my wife at the end of the week and we are still looking forward to it, but you gotta say that site doesnt give a good impression.

Areas we should avoid?

Is Phuket Dangerous? Look at the news!

Hi,

As is the case all over the world there will always be a danger, the risk and the chance that something may go wrong - but then you may run into trouble walking out your front door.

I have only been to Thailand twice, but I have never felt unsafe, afraid or witnessed anything bad happening.

There have been a few posts on this topic and the one main piece of advise is generally to just look out for yourself and avoid danger, respect the locals and their customs.

Thailand is a lovely place, the people are gorgeous and they respect the tourist dollar.

In my opinion Thailand is safe - the article you have attached was a freak accident - such things can not be controlled or predicted.

I say go and enjoy yourself!

Hi bob,

I have to agree with Kimberley, if we all had a crystal ball we wouldn%26#39;t venture anywhere. Accidents happen every where, a lot are more publicised than others. Tourists get taken by crocs in Australia, does that stop them coming, I don%26#39;t think so.

Phuket is a safe place, as long as you use common sense, as in all destinations. We have been there 27 times and apart from getting stuck in the tsunami ( an act of nature that couldn%26#39;t be avoided) we have never felt safer anywhere in the world.

Go and have a great time! Sue

Brililan gocdaworld!

Yes there has been some crime in Phuket but I have never felt safer anywhere else (except when im on a motorbike :) )

Avoid the Rassada Pier in Phuket Town excpet when embarking to Go to Phi Phi, avoid ripping off anyone in real estate deals. Try to avoid tuk tuk drivers too. ;) except when the only other option is walking on a dark deserted street late at night.

Just do the same as you would anywhere.. don%26#39;t be to complacent but no need to be paranoid.

Dangerous? No more than most places. You need common sense. However it is nowhere near as safe or the parads that some make it out to be either.

Hi Bob,

We have been to Asia many times and 3 times to Phuket and have never ever felt unsafe at any time. I would walk the Streets of Patong at night but not at home.

Its the same all over if you don%26#39;t feel safe or feel uncomfortable with an area move on. Don%26#39;t worry its fine.

Cheers, Pete.

I%26#39;ve lived on Phuket for almost eight years now and find it safer than when I lived in the Western world.

Yes, there is a fair amount of crime - but if you stay out of the mafia/business world of Phuket - you probably have nothing to worry about. That world is where the most problems seem to be.

I KNOW that my wife feels much safer there than when we lived in the USA and we often talk about it and how nice it is.

I agree with all of the above. Enjoy your holiday.

Cheers

Jubby
