New airport in Bangkok

Hi Everyone!

Flying in to Thailand%26#39;s new airport; how far by taxi is it to get to downtown Bangkok, and how much money is it about?

Also, next night wanted to take overnight train to Chiang Mai, where is it in Bangkok and how is the sleeping?

Thanks in advance :-)

They reckon it is about 30kms and you will be looking around 350B depending on where you are going to.You can also take the Airport Express bus which will cost you 150B.

The train departs out of Hualamphong station. You will probably need to book before as it can fill up quickly.

When I took the trip I booked a 2nd class aircon sleeper - which from memory was around 700B - and it was a pleasant way to head up there. The only thing I would do differently next time would be to book a lower bunk as it has slightly more room and a bit less ';rock %26amp; roll';.

Lots of posts on taking a meter taxi from the airport to the city. Use ';search function'; if this link doesn%26#39;t work.

If you have a hotel near the Skytrain route you can use the Skytrain to take you to the subway at Asok. The subway stops at the train station. Or just take a meter taxi and only pay the meter fare.

I like the sleeper train, sometimes it was a little chilly. Bring some snacks. They do take orders for breakfast but unless you like half cooked eggs and half cooked bacon I would skip it.

I got my train ticket a few days early just to guarantee a sleeper. If you haven%26#39;t been to Bangkok before you ought to spend more than a half a day there. You can take the time to book your room for your return to Bangkok while you have a chance. Some hotels will store some items for you if you want such as winter clothing.

Good luck.
